	The International Council of Ophthalmology works with ophthalmologic societies and others to enhance ophthalmic education and improve access to the highest quality eye care in order to preserve and restore vision for the people of the world.

ICO International Fellowship

Three-month training courses at internationally leading ophthalmology departments for young ophthalmologists from developing countries.

Founded in 2000, the ICO International Fellowship Program has been working to help promising young ophthalmologists from developing nations improve their practical skills and broaden their perspectives of ophthalmology. Fellows are expected to bring their acquired knowledge and skills back to their native countries and participate in programs to preserve vision and prevent blindness.

Thanks to international donations and an annual ICO contribution, more than 60 fellowships can now be awarded each year. More than 70 centers around the world have agreed to accept ICO Fellows without charging any fees, and the number is still growing.

The Fellowship Program adheres to the global initiative “VISION 2020” in spreading education and professionalism to all parts of the world and in promoting international collaboration between institutions dedicated to eye care.
